My art has a purpose
Every 24 hours, between 3.4 and 6.5 billion animals are killed for human pleasure.
What if our roles were reversed, if we were placed in the farms that non-human animals are currently placed in? How would human flesh, clothing or products be labelled, packaged and presented? What new names would farmers of humans create to label our various body parts in this imaginary supermarket or butcher’s shop?
Is there a parallel universe where we have become victims of the same abuse animals suffer from us every day, where the human slaughterhouses are hidden, unlabelled in non-descript industrial estates, where a steady stream of trucks and trains filled with people run in and out, numerous times a day, dropping off humans to be killed and dismembered? Is there another world where human mothers have their newborn babies taken from them days after birth, where after living a fraction of their lives, humans routinely get knocked out, hung upside down and have their throats slit; a world where people are stuffed into cages and descend into C02 gas chambers to suffocate to death, writhing in pain?
This is the world animals live in; the world they have to suffer through for our pleasure and entertainment. Every day, as we unquestioningly consume Big Macs, Whoppers and a plethora of other culturally sanitized slaughter victims, the animal who you’ve just paid for -the individual who has complex emotions, experiences fear and feels pain - is suffering.
Is the biggest lie we tell ourselves each day the one that blots out the cruelty we are causing?
My aim is to disturb you.
